Farm Yarns: Closed-Loop, Zero-Waste Systems

Join us at Farm Yarns to learn how local legends implement closed-loop systems, enjoy farm-to-table eats, and connect with like-minded folk.

The Farm Yarns Series spins together local businesses, sustainability experts, and our community for conversations on regenerative agriculture and sustainable systems. Our next yarn unravels the mysteries of Closed-Loop, Zero-Waste Systems, where local legends are turning waste into valuable resources, building thriving, circular economies.

At this event, our expert speakers will share how the closed-loop approach works in action at The Farm:

  • Darren Robertson, Founder & Director of the award-winning Three Blue Ducks, will share how the restaurant’s zero-waste philosophy transforms food scraps into compost, creating a full circle from farm to table and back again.
  • Katerina Lazareva, Founder of Byron Fermentary & All Things Cultured, will delve into the art of food preservation, showing how fermentation can become a part of self-sufficient zero-waste, regenerative, closed loop food system.
  • Ryan Severn, manager of Farm Development & Sustainability at The Farm will explain how he transforms organic wastes into nutrient-dense compost, ensuring that natural resources are cycled within the farm’s ecosystem.

This is your chance to untangle the secrets of zero-waste living, connect with like-minded folk, and take home practical strategies for your life or business. Browse our zero-miles mini farmers market—where fresh produce, from leafy greens to free-range eggs, has traveled just a few steps from garden to stall. Then, enjoy a farm-to-table grazing platter prepared by the talented chefs at Three Blue Ducks.

Whether you're a business owner, sustainability advocate, or simply eager to make a positive impact, this yarn will leave you with actionable insights to reduce waste, create value, and support both the environment and community.
